Preparatory Drawings, Engraving & Etching Techniques, History of Graphic Arts and Print Collecting in Tuscany, from the 16th to the 19th Century. With a special insight into the work of Giorgio Vasari in the 450th anniversary of his death (1574-2024).
Art in Tuscany is organizing the 2024 Summer Course edition on prints, print collection and printmaking.
This program is completely immersed in the atmosphere of the Renaissance city of Arezzo, the place where Giorgio Vasari (Arezzo 1511-1574 Florence), the court artist of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo de’ Medici, was born and
bought a wonderful house ? which today houses the Museum and Archive of Casa Vasari. Giorgio Vasari was a painter, architect and the first writer of artist biographies. In 2024 the city of Arezzo will celebrate the 450th anniversary of
Vasari’s death with various events.
The course will offer lessons and workshops on drawing and engraving techniques and on the history of print collecting (16th-19th centuries) in collaboration with international scholars and specialists. The seminars will also focus on Vasari’s drawings for paintings, architecture and decorative works. Candidates will be able to participate in the staging of some cultural events and have a first-hand experience of Vasari’s works of art. The program also includes an optional printmaking workshop (12 hours) with professional staff.
The course is based in Arezzo in collaboration with the Fondazione Arezzo Intour and Comune di Arezzo, Fondazione e Museo Casa dell?Antiquariato Ivan Bruschi, Accademia delle Arti del Disegno di Firenze, Fondazione Il Bisonte with
seminars and workshops in private/public collections, libraries, museums, archives in Arezzo, Siena, Florence, and Rome.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
The course is open to max 15 adults (18 + age): history, art history and related disciplines: junior students (under-graduated), graduate/ PhD, and senior amateurs.

GRANTS:
grants awarded on the basis of the letter of motivation and a
recommendation letter of at least one reference due by March 30, 2024.
